Reflection and video by Erin Kaplan, Clinical Assistant Professor of Economics
When I decided to get a PhD, I couldn’t have possibly imagined that I would become a YouTuber. Nevertheless, here we are. After many hours of toiling I created some mediocre videos to replace my in-person interactions with my students, but I let them see my humanity and embraced the struggle. After all, many students also found themselves in difficult and uncertain situations. At the end of the day, what seemed to matter most was that they knew I cared about them and that we were all in it together. I often tried to make them laugh, and sometimes I even succeeded.
