This spring 2013 issue of the College of Communication and Fine Arts newsletter serves as a new year offering. It features stories about current students and alumni; stories about dedicated donors whose generous support makes a difference, future plans of the college and more. In this issue, you will see a feature on “Matsukaze,” a Japanese Noh Theatre production. This production is a wonderful testament to collaboration between programs in the college. Interdisciplinarity is one of the key elements of the new university strategic plan; the ability for faculty and students to collaborate across disciplines allowing differing principles, practices and paradigms to inform the creative, intellectual and educational experiences of students; such in the domain of CFA.
Amongst others, in this issue there is a story about President David W. Burcham’s recent announcement of the LMU Scholarship Initiative to support current and future students. A story about the induction of Virginia Barnelle into the Faculty Hall of Fame. And there is a story that features the work of students in a graphic design class. What is intriguing in this story is the quality of professional training that students are receiving, the creative productivity of our students, and the graphic meditations of students on what it means to be a student in CFA.
The College of Communication and Fine Arts continues to be a dynamic location of critical thinking, artistic expression, and practical doing — where students are learning to use their art, talent and intellect to make a meaningful difference in the world.
