The State of California Commission on Teacher Credentialing has recently approved the Spanish Program at Loyola Marymount University as a Secondary Teaching Preparation Program for Spanish. Beginning this fall, Spanish majors will have the chance to earn a teaching credential and a bachelor’s degree in Spanish in 4 years.
In the past, many Spanish majors found teaching jobs upon graduation, but had to go back to school to earn their credentials. Now, students who place accordingly, start early in their Spanish major, and take the necessary courses in our School of Education will be able to graduate from LMU prepared to teach Spanish in California high schools.
If interested in earning a teaching credential as a Spanish major, follow these two simple steps:
- Take the online Spanish Placement Exam to get on track for our major.
- Contact the Center for Undergraduate Teacher Preparation to learn about the School of Education requirements.
The Spanish major is available through the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures.
