Tyler DeGroot joins the LMU Department of Accounting this fall as a tenure-track assistant professor and George A. Dasaro Accounting Scholar. He looks forward to joining a collegial and caring group of colleagues who strive to help both their students and each other succeed.
“I’m very excited to begin research projects with my new colleagues and help students reach their full potential not only during their time at LMU but also in their future careers,” said Tyler.
Tyler will initially teach “Financial Accounting” and add some tax courses in the future. His research interests comprise a variety of tax-related topics, including the impact of individual level taxes on corporate decisions and how taxpayers interact with tax authorities.
Tyler earned his Ph.D. in accounting from USC, a Master of Business Taxation from USC and a B.S. in accounting from California Lutheran University.
Tyler is a licensed CPA and previously worked in public accounting as a supervising senior tax accountant with HCVT LLP, where he focused on the needs of high-net-worth individuals, including tax planning and compliance; gift, estate, and trust taxation; nonprofits; and pass-through entities.
In his spare time, Tyler enjoys hiking the local mountains and taking walks around the neighborhood with his wife, Krista, and their dog, Henry. He also enjoys playing golf with friends, spending time with family and traveling. Welcome, Tyler!
