Nancy Coster was honored with the 2021 LMU Term Faculty Distinguished Teaching Award. This award recognizes LMU faculty members who have been especially successful in their teaching, and who exude a passion for their discipline and high standards for student learning and engagement.
Nancy is a clinical associate professor and assistant chair of the Department of Accounting. She joined LMU in 2007 and teaches or has previously taught undergraduate courses in “Financial Accounting,” “Advanced Accounting” and “Accounting Information Systems.”
“I was very excited and honored to learn that I had received the 2021 Term Faculty Distinguished Teaching Award,” said Nancy. “To be formally recognized for doing what I enjoy is great, and honestly, I am rewarded every day through the interactions with my students and colleagues.”
Year after year, Nancy is lauded as one of the most beloved and impactful accounting faculty members in the College of Business Administration. Her colleagues refer to her as “the heart of our department” and students praise her for being extra helpful and always having their best interests at heart.
One of her students shared, “I have never seen anything close to the level of dedication that Professor Coster has to her class…Professor Coster is definitively the best educator I have had the pleasure of coming across in the entirety of my academic career. She is genuinely kind and truly cares about all of her students.”
Nancy has won Professor of the Year multiple times over the years, an honor bestowed by accounting majors which is a testament to her personable nature and leadership talents in and out of the classroom.
“LMU students are inquisitive, eager to learn, intelligent and full of kindness,” said Nancy. “I am fortunate to be part of a university that values teaching, where colleagues, administration, alumni and firm representatives are supportive and eager to collaborate to ensure our students receive a top education and are prepared for life after LMU.”
Nancy previously taught at UC Irvine, California State University, Northridge and the University of Missouri, St. Louis. A CPA with professional experience in public accounting, Nancy earned both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in accounting from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
