Two children’s concerts featuring music, dance, artwork and storytelling will be open to young audiences on Sunday, Jan. 29 at Loyola Marymount University.
Concerts of Music for Children – now in their 18th year – will take place at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. at LMU’s Murphy Recital Hall. Sponsored by the Department of Music and funded by the Sinatra Opera Endowment, the free shows geared for children ages 3 to 12 will feature Ken Aiso, internationally acclaimed violinist and LMU faculty member, with pianist Valeria Morgovskaya performing “Myths” by the Polish composer Karol Szymanowski. The concerts will also include artwork and storytelling by local students from the LMU Family of Schools.
Members of the Sinatra Opera Workshop will perform a scene from Mozart’s “The Magic Flute,” and Los Angeles Contemporary Dance Company members will dance to music by St. Saëns and Beethoven. Additionally, LMU Percussion Ensemble Director Aaron Smith will lead the audience in an improvisatory work, followed by the ensemble’s performance of “Me, Tarzan.”
Tania Fleischer, D.M.A., applied instructor of music and chamber orchestra at LMU, is the concert coordinator.
