Winner of the 2014 Sundance Film Festival’s Special Jury Award for Breakthrough Talent, Dear White People is a sly, provocative satire of race relations in the age of Obama. On Monday, October 13th, the film’s producer and LMU alumna Effie Brown screened the film on campus to a packed house. Brown joined SFTV professor Steve Duncan for a Q&A immediately following the screening.
“If you can’t see it, you can’t be it,” said Brown on the importance of diverse stories in film. “So many times growing up, I felt like we weren’t there and in college you’re really trying to find your voice and find your passion.” Watch the video for more highlights from her appearance on SFTV’s Monday Nights Series.
