Michael E. Breault, a brother of the Society of Jesus and a member of the Jesuits West Province, has been awarded the first Jesuit Visiting Scholar Fellowship which will bring him to Loyola Marymount University for the 2018/19 academic year.
Breault, a graduate of New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts Professional Theater Training Program, is a writer, director and producer for stage and screen. He is a winner of the prestigious George Foster Peabody Award, which honors the most powerful, enlightening, and invigorating stories in television, radio, and online media.
During his fellowship, Breault will write the pilot episode of a projected TV series about Jesuit exploration during the Age of Discovery. Additionally, he will write and workshop the stage adaptation of a best-selling novel.
As a Jesuit Visiting Scholar, Breault will offer a cross-listed course in the School of Film and Television and the Department of Theatre Arts in the College of Communication and Fine Arts. He will also give a public lecture.
The Jesuit Visiting Scholar Program is funded primarily by the Jesuit Legacy Endowment, which was established by the Jesuit Community for the challenging task of supporting the university’s mission and the presence of Jesuits and the Catholic/Jesuit values and pedagogy, intellectual traditions and imagination in teaching, research and writing in all schools and departments of the university.
