This Saturday, May 20, an opening reception will kick off an exhibition of the work of Leyla Salmassian, a 2017 graduate of the Department of Martial & Family Therapy’s master’s program. The week-long exhibition is called “Liminal Spaces: A study of manifestation of spirituality in art from the lens of an Art Psychotherapist,” and is the culmination of Leyla’s master’s research thesis on spirituality in art therapy.
“This show represents an inquiry into using art-making as a way of documenting and contextualizing the qualities of the internal and external emotional landscapes,” said Leyla.“This inquiry is aimed at uncovering themes and broadening self-knowledge in the understanding, support and enhancement of growth, healing and well-being.”
The show is presented in honor of Leyla’s mother, Dr. Maryam Salmassian, and Dr. Debra Linesch, Chair of the Department of Marital & Family Therapy, whose mentorship, support, acceptance and loving care made this work possible. The above slideshow is a selection of works that will be included the show.
