
David Stewart, President’s Professor of Marketing at Loyola Marymount University, has been selected to receive the “Marketing and Society Lifetime Achievement Award” from the American Marketing Association (AMA). The award will be presented during the Marketing Educators Conference in Chicago in August.
Stewart was recognized for his sustained research, teaching and applied contributions to the role of marketing in addressing questions of significant societal interest. His scholarly publications have addressed numerous socially relevant issues ranging from healthcare to communication of risk to social marketing to economic development, in addition to important contributions to marketing research methods, statistics, consumer behavior, marketing communications and marketing strategy. Stewart has also contributed to important social issues including his membership and chairmanship of the Committee of Joint Professional Associations for the United States Census Bureau, involvement with not-for-profit organizations, and his chairmanship of the City of Riverside strategic planning task force that produced a new economic model for the city called “Seizing Our Destiny.”
“I am humbled and honored by this award from my academic colleagues in the American Marketing Association,” said Stewart. “Marketing as a discipline makes extraordinary contributions to the general quality of life in society and I am especially proud to be identified with these contributions.”
Stewart is past chair of the AMA’s Marketing and Society Special Interest Group, which is composed of hundreds of marketing professors at leading universities throughout the world who address the most important questions related to meeting the needs of society. He previously held faculty and administrative appointments at Vanderbilt University, the University of Southern California and the University of California at Riverside. He is past editor of the Journal of Marketing and the Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science and currently edits the Journal of Public Policy and Marketing. Stewart has received other lifetime contribution awards from the Academy of Marketing Science, the Society for Marketing Advances, and the American Academy of Advertising.
