The tents are folded, the equipment is loaded on the trucks, and the Los Angeles Rams have turned their attention to the upcoming preseason games and the beginning of the NFL season. That’s when the drills on Sullivan Field, the team meetings in Seaver Hall, and the work during training camp on the Loyola Marymount University campus pay off.
For 13,900 fans who watched the open practices, there will be a closer connection to the team and players when the season begins Sept. 8 in Detroit: Did they catch the beginning of a breakout season? Do they recognize a scheme from practice? Did they buy enough gear to get through the season?
LMU has hosted conferences and events before, but nothing on the scale of the Rams training camp. Coordinated efforts from departments across campus made the two-week experience successful for the team and the university.
The distinctly family-friendly event prioritized community engagement and served as an excellent opportunity to enhance LMU’s visibility, attract future Lions, and bring alumni back to the bluff.
“The past few weeks have filled my heart with Lion pride. Colleagues from various departments united to welcome the Rams and their fans to our beautiful campus, many experiencing it for the first time,” said Marianna Villa, MarComm’s vice president for External Relations and Partnerships. “The Training Camp also hosted elected officials and regional leaders, fostering discussions and collaborations that extend far beyond the camp’s duration.”
Thirty LMU students, serving as Rams interns, played vital roles in every aspect of the camp, showcasing the spirit of being an LMU Lion, while getting an insider look at the business of football.
“Being able to have this wonderful opportunity to help LMU continue fostering this relationship with the Rams has been truly life-changing,” said Rams Training Camp intern Kimberly Freeman ‘26. “Showcasing our LMU pride at each and every practice over the last couple of weeks has been nothing but incredible.”
The Lion community wishes the Rams good luck on the season, and we’ll see you Dec. 8 for LMU Day at the Rams against the Buffalo Bills.
