Loyola Marymount University will ring in the holiday season on Friday, Dec. 1, at a campus tree lighting celebration featuring horse-drawn carriage rides, musical entertainment and a visit from Santa.
At the annual ritual celebrated by students, faculty and staff members, and Westchester residents, the university will light a 28-foot tree – more than double the size of those from previous years – on Regents Terrace. Lights will also decorate nearby Sacred Heart Chapel, St. Robert’s Hall, the Malone Student Center and trees lining Palm Walk.
Two a cappella groups will perform, along with the LMU Gospel Choir and a DJ. The event will offer a holiday craft area for kids, free pictures with Santa, gingerbread men decorating, hot chocolate and cookies, holiday mug giveaways and food trucks.
Marc Reeves, S.J., associate director of Campus Ministry, will bless this year’s tree. LMU President Timothy Law Snyder, Ph.D., will join the festivities along with Los Angeles District 11 City Councilman Mike Bonin and Hayden Tanabe, president of the Associated Students of Loyola Marymount University, which is spearheading the event.
