High school students from across Los Angeles are learning how to manage money and set financial goals at the LMU College of Business Administration’s Financial Literacy Boot Camp sessions.
The week-long summer camps on LMU’s Westchester campus are part of the Fred Kiesner Center for Entrepreneurship’s Save it Forward Initiative, which was launched in 2015 with support from Kinko’s founder and part-time faculty member Paul Orfalea.
The curriculum was developed by Ron Rishagen, an LMU entrepreneur in residence, and Entrepreneurship Professor David Choi, and is designed to teach teens the fundamental elements of financial literacy. LMU student instructors lead discussions about credit, debt, the benefits of delayed gratification and creating wealth, among other topics.
This summer, the program will reach more than 120 students from 47 Los Angeles area high schools.
Upcoming camps are planned July 23-26 and Aug. 6-9 at LMU’s Hilton Center for Business.
