Loyola Marymount University today welcomed a new class of 1,500 first-year students to its Westchester campus – drawing from a record-breaking pool of applicants – and opened the doors to a new creative campus for graduate and professional education in the heart of Silicon Beach.
More than 18,000 students applied for fall first-year enrollment to LMU – a 17-percent jump over last year’s 15,400 applications.
The Class of 2022 is the most diverse and accomplished in LMU history, with an average high school GPA of 3.81. The students come from 42 states, the District of Columbia, and 51 nations. More than 200 international first-year and transfer students are enrolled this year, and the university welcomes more than 400 new transfer students overall – drawing from a record 3,000 applications.
As the newest Lions began moving onto the Westchester Bluff last week, the university was putting the finishing touches on its new 50,000-square-foot LMU Playa Vista Campus.
LMU has moved its School of Film and Television graduate programs and the College of Business Administration’s Executive MBA Program to the campus at 12105 W. Waterfront Drive, which also boasts a 5,000-square-foot flexible-use space called The Gallery. The university and community partners will host events there, including part of the LA Film Festival on Sept. 22 and 23.
Given its location in L.A.’s tech hub, the LMU Playa Vista Campus provides new opportunities for industry partnerships, and will create additional opportunities for LMU students through internships, real-world class projects and career pathways.
