SOE Dean Michelle D. Young was selected as this year’s recipient of the 2022 American Educational Research Association (AERA) Division A’s Excellence in Research (Lifetime Achievement) Award. She will be formally recognized for the honor on Friday, April 22 at the AERA Annual Meeting in San Diego, California.
The award was bestowed to commemorate Young’s exemplary and sustained scholarship, engagement, and impact in the field of educational leadership. “It’s the substance of her contributions that qualify them as noteworthy for this nomination,” said AERA. “The number of her publications is impressive, yet it is their substance and reach that elevate Dr. Young’s achievements and contributions that serve as a foundation of the nomination.”
Young, a nationally renowned expert on educational leadership, assumed the role of dean of LMU School of Education and professor of educational leadership and policy in July 2020. She joined LMU from the University of Virginia, where she was professor of educational leadership and policy; chair of the department of education leadership, foundations, and policy; and longtime executive director of the University Council for Educational Administration (UCEA), an international consortium of more than 100 research institutions with master’s and doctoral level programs in educational leadership and administration. “I’m humbled to accept this award from AERA,” she said. “The use of research to improve education serves the public good and fosters social justice, and I’m proud to be aligned with both LMU and AERA on these shared values.”
