According to the latest data, 97 percent of Loyola Marymount University’s Class of 2017 are now either employed, attending graduate school or taking part in post-graduate service. These impressive results are on par with 2016, with notable increases in several of LMU’s colleges and schools.
“We are committed to being transparent from the start about the significant return on investment available to LMU students,” said Maureen Weatherall, the university’s vice provost for Enrollment Management. “Students are focused now more than ever on making sure a college education will prove valuable in the real world. We recognize that and are dedicated to setting our students up for success so that they soar once they leave campus.”
Among LMU’s five undergraduate schools, 96 percent of the College of Business Administration’s 2017 grads are either employed or attending graduate school. That number is 93 percent for the Frank R. Seaver College of Science and Engineering. At the School of Film and Television, the number of new alumni still looking for work six months after graduation dwindled to just 4 percent.
In the College of Communication and Fine Arts, grad school enrollment among this year’s alumni jumped 10 percentage points, and graduates from the Bellarmine College of Liberal Arts are landing jobs with major employers, including Amazon, the Council on Foreign Relations, Deloitte, Disney, LinkedIn, Live Nation and more.
“LMU’s focus on providing a rigorous education, its innovative Core curriculum, and ample student-faculty mentoring opportunities prepare students to lead the way with their achievements, both here and after earning their degrees,” said Executive Vice President and Provost Thomas Poon. “We’re proud of the impressive journeys our graduates launch as a result of the excellent education and career preparation they obtain at Loyola Marymount.”
“The LMU Class of 2017 is achieving post-graduate success at an incredible rate,” said Branden Grimmett, LMU’s associate provost of Career and Professional Development. “This year, graduates secured employment at established Silicon Beach companies, including Deutsch, Riot Games, and Snapchat. Recent grads also matriculated into competitive masters and doctoral programs at Harvard Medical School, Stanford University, and the London School of Economics and Political Science. Current and future LMU students will benefit from the vast, well-placed LMU network.”
LMU’s close proximity to the burgeoning tech community of Silicon Beach and the entertainment industry has helped students land stellar professional opportunities. Career and Professional Development also provides extensive outreach and opportunities for LMU students to explore different career fields and industries, and gain real-world preparation for life after graduation.
