Loyola Marymount University senior theatre arts major Raquel Justice has secured a role in the series “Dexter: Original Sin,” a prequel to the thrilling show “Dexter,” which aired in 2006. This is a true milestone in Justice’s career.
Justice has appeared in several television series, including “One Day at a Time” as Nora, “Quantum Leap” as Stacy, “Finding Tony” as Destiny, and “Andi Mack” as Kira.
Her journey to “Dexter: Original Sin” began in early May when she learned that one of her classmates received an audition for the role of Deb. From this, Justice pursued an audition of her own. She then quickly endured the casting process to land the role of Sofia Rivera.
As Justice described Sofia’s character, she notes that she is strong, open-minded, loyal, and assertive. She found the role empowering, as it helped enhance her confidence and build upon her brand as an actress.
Justice credits LMU as an aid in helping her grow. After visiting the campus with her best friend, she knew LMU was the right fit. Although she had considered attending NYU or Columbia, she was drawn to LMU’s hands-on experiences with theatre production. “LMU is perfect for me,” she said, reflecting on how the university has allowed her to excel theatrically on and off campus.
Justice is currently studying abroad through the Comillas Pontifical University exchange student program near Madrid, Spain. While abroad, she is auditioning, completing press for “Dexter: Original Sin” and preparing to participate in local theater.
Looking ahead, while no confirmed roles are on the horizon, Justice remains dedicated to her craft. She continues to strengthen her skills, retaining inspiration from seasoned actors like Christian Slater and Rita Moreno, and has begun writing to expand her creative talent in the industry.
In the future, she hopes to have her own production company and write her own films. Above all, Justice says, she wants to make media that passionately expresses a “collaborative creative process.”
