The Loyola Marymount University School of Education has once again received full accreditation by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) for its School Psychology program. LMU SOE is one of 15 universities in California that has a School Psychology program with full accreditation by NASP, the world’s largest organization of school psychologists.
“Full accreditation by NASP is a testament to LMU SOE’s commitment to quality in education and training in school psychology,” said Brian Leung, professor and director of SOE’s School Psychology program. “Our program always strives to meet the highest standards of the profession by providing the best evidence-based training, coursework and field experiences for our students.”
Graduates of the program automatically receive the Nationally Certified School Psychologist (NCSP) credential from NASP, allowing graduates to work in other states. In addition, graduates of the program attain: an Education Specialist degree in School Psychology, Master of Arts degree in Educational Psychology and the California Pupil Personnel Services Credential in School Psychology. By continuing with full accreditation, the LMU School Psychology program has demonstrated that it has met rigorous national standards for providing responsive and evidence-based educational and psychological services to the local community, schools, and beyond.
LMU SOE’s school psychology program is dedicated to providing future school psychologists with outstanding training from distinguished faculty who are renowned locally and on the national landscape. The three-year cohort program provides each candidate with assessment and intervention skills, legal and ethical training, system-level thinking and professionalism, and individualized leadership development to become a change maker in the schools that they serve.
LMU SOE’s graduate program in school psychology first received NASP accreditation in 2006. The recent conferral of full NASP accreditation extends the seven-year-old program’s fully accredited status through 2022.
NASP represents more than 25,000 school psychologists, graduate students and related professionals throughout the United States and 25 other countries. It works to advance effective practices and methods to improve students’ learning, behavior, and mental health.
