Shane P. Martin, Ph.D., dean of Loyola Marymount University’s School of Education and dean of Graduate Studies, has earned a national award for his dedication and support for diversity and inclusion in higher education.
Martin is a recipient of INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine’s 2017 Giving Back Award, which honors college and university administrators who go above and beyond their everyday leadership duties and “give back” to their campuses and communities. He will be featured with other winners in the April issue.
“The Giving Back Award is being awarded to leaders of institutions of higher education who exemplify what it truly means to ‘give back’ to others,” said INSIGHT Into Diversity Publisher Holly Mendelson. “These administrators are role models, and we honor their efforts to promote diversity and inclusion on their campuses and in their communities.”
The awardees were nominated by colleagues and selected based on their outstanding demonstration of social responsibility; involvement with students, faculty, staff and the community; and commitment to serving underrepresented populations.
“This award recognizes Dean Martin’s longstanding commitment and leadership in promoting social justice and welcoming students diverse in talents, interests and cultural backgrounds. Shane is a champion of inclusive excellence, a core value of the extraordinary educational experience LMU provides,” said LMU Provost and Executive Vice President Joseph Hellige. “I congratulate him and honor him for inspiring generations of LMU students and alumni.”
