After Pope Francis delivers his historic address to a joint session of Congress on Thursday, Sept. 24, members of the Loyola Marymount University campus community, alumni, and friends, will gather at 4 p.m. PDT for a replay of the address, followed by reactions from experts representing the Jesuit, theological and political science perspectives.
It is widely believed that Pope Francis will encourage members of Congress to integrate into their worldview his own well-known commitment to the poor and the marginalized, and to address directly issues of immigration and climate change.
The panel will be moderated by Allan Deck, S.J., rector of LMU’s Jesuit Community, with Fernando Guerra, professor of political science, and Susan Abraham, assistant professor of theological studies, discussing the pope’s message and its impact. Their responses will be followed by a Q & A with the audience.
