Terry Lenihan, assistant professor of art education at Loyola Marymount University, has been appointed to the California Arts Council by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.
“I am very excited about this appointment,” Lenihan said. “It is giving me an opportunity to continue to raise public awareness about the important role the arts play in our public and private lives.” Lenihan, whose sculpture and installation artwork has been featured in numerous local and international galleries and museums, has been an art education specialist in the Department of Art and Art History at LMU’s College of Communication and Fine Art since 2004. She is the director of LMU’s ARTsmart Service Learning Program and has more than twenty years experience in developing site-specific art projects with young artists. These projects have been sponsored by the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, and the Metropolitan Transit Authority. Lenihan earned a Master of Fine Arts at Claremont Graduate University. “Terry has been an advocate for arts education in our schools and in the life of our communities,” said Barbara Busse, dean of CFA. “It is very gratifying to see her years of hard work recognized with this appointment.” The California Arts Council is a state agency that encourages widespread public participation in the arts. The 11-member council and professional staff have expertise in the arts, creative industries, education, community development, state and local government, and the nonprofit and for-profit sectors. |
