Loyola Marymount University is one of the top universities in the nation for students who earn prestigious Fulbright grants to study, teach English and conduct research abroad, according to a list published today by the Chronicle of Higher Education.
For the 2018-19 academic year, five LMU students received Fulbright grants of 17 who applied, placing the university in the top five nationwide among Master’s universities — LMU’s current category in the Carnegie Classification system, which is used by education researchers to distinguish between types of colleges and universities.
Each year the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs announces the top-producing institutions for the Fulbright Program, the U.S. government’s flagship international educational exchange program. The chronicle publishes the lists annually.
LMU students were awarded grants to Belgium, Colombia, Laos, South Korea and Spain.
Since its inception in 1946, the Fulbright Program has provided more than 390,000 participants — chosen for their academic merit and leadership potential — with the opportunity to exchange ideas and contribute to finding solutions to shared international concerns. More than 1,900 U.S. students, artists and young professionals in more than 100 fields of study are offered Fulbright Program grants each year.
