Loyola Marymount University leaders are recognized once again among the “LA500,” the Los Angeles Business Journal’s list of the city’s most powerful, influential, and impactful people.
Those selected for the ninth LA500 list are “dynamic leaders driving our economy, our communities and our region’s innovation,” noted Publisher and CEO Josh Schimmels in his introduction to the special report.
“As we move past some (but not all) of the challenges that COVID presented, many sectors are thriving and we’re seeing businesses stretch the boundaries of what can be accomplished,” Schimmels said. “At the same time, we write about industries that are facing significant challenges and are having to find new ways to succeed. Whether leading through change or bringing their teams to new heights, this year’s LA500 honorees are making an impact throughout our amazing city.”
LMU President Timothy Law Snyder, Ph.D. appears on the list for the ninth time. A distinguished educator, mathematician, and academic administrator at Jesuit institutions for more than 30 years, Snyder joins just 17 leaders selected for the LA500’s education category. As president, he has inspired the community to pursue new heights of excellence, as evidenced by record-setting enrollments; the university’s reclassification as a Carnegie R2 doctoral university with high research activity; LMU being awarded a chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, the nation’s oldest and most prestigious academic honor society; expanding the university’s leadership in diversity, equity, and inclusion, and anti-racism programs; and key infrastructure additions that include a third LMU campus in Playa Vista.
Board of Trustees Chair Paul S. Viviano, chief executive and president of Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, is recognized for the ninth time in the LA500’s health care category. He has served on LMU’s Board of Trustees since 2010 and assumed the role of chair in 2016. He is a former member of the Board of Regents.
