Loyola Marymount University leaders are recognized once again among the “LA500” — the Los Angeles Business Journal’s list of the city’s most influential, powerful, and impactful people.
Those selected for the 2023 LA500 list are leaders who face new sets of challenges every year, and the past year was no different, noted Josh Schimmels, publisher and CEO, in his introduction to the special report.
“As the world began to recover from COVID-19, a new set of problem-solving skills was needed. Rather than focusing on productivity and culture while working from home, it was time to bring our teams back to the office and back to integrating into communities,” Schimmels explained. “Along with so many others, our 2023 class of LA500 leaders stepped up.”
LMU President Timothy Law Snyder, Ph.D., appears for the eighth time on this list of dynamic leaders who are driving innovation, creativity, community, and industry in Los Angeles. Under Snyder’s leadership, LMU is ranked 77th among national universities by U.S. News & World Report, and No. 8 in the “Top Green Colleges” list by The Princeton Review for the campus’s commitment to sustainability. Snyder, LMU’s 16th president, is one of only 20 leaders selected for the LA500’s education category.
LMU College of Business Administration Dean Dayle M. Smith, Ph.D., joins the LA500 for the fourth time. LMU CBA recently launched the Business Innovation Zone, a space for interdisciplinary collaboration, and was awarded a $1.2 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education. Smith serves on the board of trustees for the Globally Responsible Leadership Initiative, is president-elect of the International Association of Jesuit Business Schools, and recently joined the World Trade Center Los Angeles Board of Advisors.
Board of Trustees Chair Paul S. Viviano, chief executive and president of Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, is recognized for the eighth time in the LA500’s health care category. He has served on LMU’s Board of Trustees since 2010 and assumed the role of chair in 2016. He is a former member of the Board of Regents.
