Loyola Marymount University offers students “a vast array of internship opportunities and a stellar academic lineup that includes solid programs in television and film, liberal arts and sciences, and business,” according to the newly released Fiske Guide to Colleges 2018.
Compiled by former New York Times education editor Edward B. Fiske, the guide offers a detailed look at more than 300 schools in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and Ireland. It includes student observations and quotes, and evaluates colleges in areas such as student demographics, academics, social life, financial aid, housing, food and extracurricular activities.
LMU “professors truly know their students and take a personal interest in their learning,” a junior told the Fiske Guide. Added another student: “All of them encourage students to interact and to get to know them better.”
The guide points to the popularity and strength of LMU’s programs in marketing, communication studies, psychology, English, film and television production, and theatre arts, as well as its “solid” engineering and business programs. LMU also offers 64 study-abroad options on six continents, the guide states, and “a plethora of internships to experience-hungry students.”
Students note that the campus “is known for its sense of community and its friendliness,” and that LMU’s Jesuit heritage promotes a social atmosphere that “motivates students to improve themselves by helping others.”
“With its dynamic mix of solid academics, Jesuit tradition and thriving social life,” the Fiske Guide says, “LMU offers students substance and style.”
