The White House Summit on Educational Excellence for African Americans will include remarks from LMU alumna Effie Brown, a producer for HBO’s Project Greenlight. Brown – who has been in the spotlight for challenging Matt Damon, one of the show’s executive producers, for his comments about diversity – will speak on the value of inclusion.
David Johns, executive director of the White House initiative, will moderate a panel discussion among students and alumni from LMU, UCLA and USC. Other speakers include Natalie Wheatfall, a policy analyst with The Education Trust-West, and LMU Executive Vice President and Provost Joseph Hellige.
President Barack Obama established the initiative in 2012 to ensure African Americans receive an education that properly prepares them for college and productive careers. The White House educational summits offer opportunities for discussions to take place around the country.
The White House Summit starts at 1 p.m. in the Life Sciences Building Auditorium.
