LMU partnered with the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce to host the 2023 Education Summit, the first-ever convening of regional business, education, and policy leaders to explore how they can work together to prepare the workforce for the future.
“Collaborating with the L.A. Area Chamber of Commerce is a unique opportunity for both LMU and the chamber to bring the best minds together for a true exchange of ideas,” said Marianna Villa, LMU associate vice president of External Relations and Partnerships. “These panels are an open dialogue to address how we shape the business and education landscape for the next generation.”
LMU President Timothy Law Snyder, Ph.D., welcomed the assembly along with L.A. Area Chamber Board Chair A.G. Spanos and President and CEO Maria S. Salinas. More than 200 guests heard panels addressing how business and education can reimagine the collaboration between the two sectors. The summit’s ambitious goal was a call-to-action for a paradigm shift that can revolutionize the pipeline from early education to upskilling the workforce.
Snyder also joined a panel comprised exclusively of college and university leaders. Moderated by Raul Anaya, co-chair of The CEO Council and president of Business Banking at Bank of America, the panel explored the need to deepen relationships with the private sector and collaborate with academia as innovations evolve and redefine the jobs of the future.
LMU Executive Vice President and Provost Thomas Poon, Ph.D., participated in a discussion moderated by Deloitte Future of Work Institute’s Blythe Kladney that included Stemuli founder and LMU alumna Taylor Shead ’11 and Anna Farzindar, a clinical professor in LMU Frank R. Seaver College of Science and Engineering, to discuss how we are “Navigating the Future of Work with AI.”
LMU Associate Vice Provost Audra Verrier of Career and Professional Development joined a panel with colleagues across academia and business to review pioneering new pathways and innovations to prepare the workforce of the future.
Salinas concluded the program by leading a compelling conversation that included Shannon Tabaldo, founding director of the Innovation in Digital Education and Leadership (iDEAL) Institute at LMU. The talk reviewed tangible action steps to inspire the next generation of students and educators – and ensure the business community continues to play an active role.
This inaugural education summit continues LMU’s commitment to partnerships that provide students and the community with the knowledge and experience to ignite a brighter world.
