Loyola Marymount University was ranked #7 among 380 Colleges nationwide for having “Students Most Engaged in Community Service” in the Princeton Review’s The Best 380 Colleges: 2016 Edition.
Last year, LMU students volunteered 199,167 hours at numerous nonprofit organizations and schools in Los Angeles, including homeless shelters, after-school and mentoring programs, legal aid clinics and other settings. In addition, students participate in 12 domestic and international Alternative Break programs and many courses across the university include a community-based learning component.
“The Center for Service and Action partners with students, faculty and community agencies to create opportunities for students to engage and learn from those on the margins of society, and through reflection on the root causes of these issues, move toward social action to work with these marginalized communities to create a more just world,” said Pam Rector, director of the center.
LMU also ranked #11 for Most Beautiful Campus and #17 in the Happiest Students category.
In the important Campus Life categories, LMU received high marks for its Quality of Life and Green categories.
The Princeton Review survey is based on interviews with 136,000 students at 380 top colleges who rate their schools on dozens of topics and report on their campus experiences.
