Who says the San Fernando Valley doesn’t have any culture? Damon Willick, associate professor of Art History at Loyola Marymount, certainly doesn’t. He’s the author of Valley Vista: Art in the San Fernando Valley, ca. 1970-1990 and curator of an exhibition on Valley artists currently on display at Cal State Northridge. His work seeks to look beyond the stereotypes of the Valley as suburban wasteland and reassess its place in the history of Los Angeles as a center of contemporary art.
Willick will discuss his book and the exhibition at LMU’s William H. Hannon Library on Tuesday, Sept. 16 at 5:30 p.m. Joining him will be Antoine Wilson, author of the novel Panorama City, a 2012 Los Angeles Times bestseller. The event is part of the library’s Faculty Pub Night series, now in its fifth year.
