John is a member of a true “LMU legacy family.” He is one of six brothers, five of whom are LMU alumni. Together, the Page brothers earned eight degrees from the university. Neither of their parents was educated past grammar school but the decision for the Page sons to attend college was iron-clad. Receiving scholarships helped create paths out of South-Central Los Angeles and the family grocery store, allowing the brothers to pursue notable professional careers that spanned from John’s impressive career as an esteemed professor, to a brother’s career as President and CEO of a Fortune 500 company.
Teaching at LMU for a record-breaking 55 years, John shared, before his retirement in May 2017, “A fun part of teaching, for me, is watching the students go from 18-year old naïve freshmen, to confident seniors who are ready to go out into the world.” He continued, “To watch that change and think that maybe I had a little something to do with that change in some of those students, has always been a favorite part for me.”
John joined LMU’s faculty in 1962 and has been inducted into Seaver College’s Wall of Fame. During summers, he worked in industry at Douglas Aircraft, McDonnell Douglas, and The Aerospace Company. John turned down offers to stay at the companies because of his deep affinity for teaching. He brought his industry experience into the classroom, along with knowledge gained from being a registered Professional Electrical Engineer, a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and a member of the American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE).
