J.S. Mayank (Production – M.F.A. ’10) is one of the Grand Prize winners of the Beijing International Screenwriting Competition in the short-film category for his screenplay You and Me. You and Me centers on an American woman who arrives in China to retrace the steps of her deceased daughter from a video diary the daughter kept of her trip to the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Mayank will receive an all-expenses paid trip to Beijing for the June 9, 2013 awards ceremony where he will be presented with $1000 cash. He will also have the opportunity to have his script produced in China during his stay. The competition, which was launched by the Chinese Government in March, solicited stories about the nation’s capital and drew more than 1,000 entries from nearly 130 schools across the United States.
Mayank recently finished his Sci-Fi short-film, EMIT, produced by Jesse Morrison (Production ’10), shot by Patrick Meade Jones (Production ’07) and starring Jack Coleman (Heroes, The Office). EMIT played at the SCI-FI-LONDON Festival, the Sci-Fi-Fantasty Festival in Athens, the Newport Beach Film Festival, the Julien Dubuque Festival, and is an official selection at the Las Vegas Film Festival in July.
