Over the past year, Loyola Marymount University has been engaged in a process of institutional self-reflection called the Mision Priority Examen (MPE) to discern priorities that will guide the university’s mission growth in the years to come.
A significant outcome of the process to date has been the drafting of a self-study report generated from work performed by a committee representative of a wide range of campus stakeholders. The report recollects past achievements, acknowledges shortcomings and missed opportunities, and describes our aspirations for a thriving university guided by mission and shaped by our Jesuit and Marymount educational traditions.
With the draft of the self-study report complete, we now look forward to the arrival of a Peer Visitor Team who will be on campus Sept. 20-23 to meet with faculty, staff, students, administrators, and trustees and to hear directly about our commitment to the priorities outlined in the report. The team is composed of experts in Catholic higher education who are also familiar with the spirituality and traditions of LMU’s three sponsoring religious congregations. They are led by Mark Reed, Ed.D., president of Loyola University Chicago, who also served as the chair of the external team that visited LMU in 2024 during our WSCUC reaccreditation. The other team members are: Xavier Cole, Ed.D., president of Loyola University New Orleans; Ann McElaney-Johnson, Ph.D., president of Mount St. Mary’s University; and Cheryl Moore-Thomas, Ph.D., provost and senior vice president of Loyola University Maryland.
The Peer Visitor Team will host two in-person open sessions, one for faculty and one for staff, on Tuesday, Sept. 22, at 1:45-2:45 p.m. To participate in a session, please register using the appropriate link below. Additional information about the meeting, along with a copy of the self-study report, will follow in a separate calendar invitation confirming your participation. Prior to meeting with the Peer Visitor Team, we ask you to familiarize yourself with the contents of the report and with this letter to the LMU community from Mark Reed, the visiting team chair.
