Professor Jane Brucker has been named the Interim Chair of Studio Arts for the Spring 2017 semester, following the departure of former chair Garland Kirkpatrick, who is on sabbatical. Brucker has taught at LMU since 1993, and previously served as the chair of the Drawing Department within Studio Arts.
Brucker uses sculptural objects and performance to engage the viewer through movement, sound, and ritual activity. In works that exhibit a strong tactile sensibility, she is able to simultaneously explore the visceral and the spiritual, and she brings this ability to her teaching. She earned an MFA from Claremont Graduate University, an MA in Religion and the Arts from the Claremont School of Theology and attended Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture where she studied with Agnes Martin. She is a certified teacher of the Alexander Technique and regularly incorporates this awareness practice into her courses.
