For it’s first production of the Fall 2017 season, CFA’s Theatre Arts Department staged I and You by Lauren Gunderson, a play about a young woman who is homebound due to illness and waiting for a liver transplant. Caroline hasn’t been to school in months when Anthony shows up at her house unexpectedly with an English assignment due the next day. As these two let down their guards and share their secrets, the seemingly mundane poetry project they are working on unlocks a much deeper mystery that has brought them together. I and You is an ode to youth, life, love, and the strange beauty of human connectedness. The play starred Katie Anne Moy and Carl Cooper.
“The play itself is stunningly moving and beautiful and we had two very talented young actors who were able to bring Gunderson’s script to life,” said Kevin Wetmore, Theatre Arts Department Chair and director of the play. “The play was thought-provoking, emotionally moving and highly entertaining, and also encouraged the audience to think about organ donation. This type of the production showcases the best the arts can be – transformative, entertaining, but also socially active, looking to affect positive change in society.”
The Theatre Arts Department partnered with the Los Angeles-based non-profit organization Donate Life, group committed to increasing the number of organ, eye and tissue donors, and dedicated to raising awareness of the importance of organ donation.
