President Timothy Law Snyder and Dean of LMU School of Film & Television, Joanne Moore, joined a star-studded guest list for The Hollywood Reporter’s 2023 Women in Entertainment Breakfast Gala where local high school student, Alejandra, was awarded a full ride scholarship to Loyola Marymount University, generously funded by The Chuck Lorre Family Foundation, and presented by acclaimed singer songwriter, Dua Lipa.
“Attending LMU is my dream! To see it come true has been a surreal experience. I still can’t believe it!” said Alejandra, who will be joining the Animation Department in fall 2024.
“The Hollywood Reporter Women in Entertainment mentorship program recognizes that the entertainment industry still isn’t accessible to everyone. It provides opportunities to those who might not have even considered attending film school or working in the entertainment industry. By pairing high school students with inspirational and aspirational female entertainment professionals, it demonstrates what is possible,” said Dean Joanne Moore.
LMU has provided 30 full ride scholarships over the past eight years. The scholarship recipients have gone on to industry positions at companies like Netflix, Sony, and Skydance to launch their careers. More than $1 million in scholarships were given this year.
Timed to coincide with The Hollywood Reporter’s 2023 Women in Entertainment Power 100 issue, over 800 of the most influential women in the industry gathered to celebrate Adele as she received the prestigious Sherry Lansing Leadership Award from Oscar winner, Helen Mirren, for being a trailblazer in the industry and for her philanthropic work. Kerry Washington was also honored with the Equity in Entertainment Award presented to her by Academy Award winner Ariana DeBose.
Joining President Snyder and Dean Moore at the prestigious event were 35 high school juniors and seniors in the Women in Entertainment/ Big Brothers Big Sisters mentorship program, Special Advisor and LMU Ambassador Carol Costello, LMU School of Film & Television’s Distinguished Artist in Residence and 2024 American Society of Cinematographers President’s Award recipient Amy Vincent, award-winning producer and LMU alumni Effie Brown, award-winning writer/ director and LMU alumni Gloria Calderón Kellett, Shark Tank’s Lori Greiner and her business partner Courtney Symon, co-founder of Fresh Brothers Debbie Goldberg, and LMU School of Film & Television Director of Development Stacy Barnes.
