The LMU College of Business Administration has outstanding faculty who inspire our students to be creative and courageous leaders in and out of the classroom.
One example is Mitch Hamilton, associate professor of marketing, who deserves a special shoutout for his accomplishments, research and latest foray into the podcast space.
In 2017, Hamilton launched a progressive program within the marketing major called “Applied Learning in Societal Transformation” or A-LIST, which has proven to be a rewarding pathway for students. A-LIST is a project-based learning program that aims to train future marketers by fusing an industry-involved pedagogy with a mission-driven ideology that emphasizes sociocultural empathy and the triple bottom line (profits + people + planet) approach to marketing.
A-LIST students in Hamilton’s “Brand Storytelling” class are collaborating with re—inc, a gender-neutral, socially conscious clothing line founded by U.S. women’s national soccer team stars Megan Rapinoe, Christen Press, Tobin Heath and Meghan Klingenberg. The students are tasked with creating content, campaigns and brand activations that support and empower re—inc and the communities that it serves. Students will unveil their strategies to the re—inc founders during a virtual pitch event.
Hamilton’s research primarily focuses on the contemporary consumer-brand paradigm. However, his most recent work has shifted to an emphasis on systemic inequity and social injustice. In 2020, he and several co-authors were awarded Best Working Paper by the Association for Consumer Research for their paper, “When Does Diversity Help or Backfire? Impact of Cultural Diversity on Brand Perception.”
Hamilton also recently launched a podcast with Julian Saint Clair, associate professor of marketing, titled “2 Dope Professors.” Follow them on Instagram @2dopeprofessors and on YouTube here.
Thank you Professor Hamilton for your many contributions in making LMU and the greater community a better place!
