R. Chad Dreier ’69, chairman, president and CEO of the Ryland Group, a Fortune 500 company, and chair of the LMU Board of Trustees, will speak about ethics and business in Hilton 100 on Feb. 12 at 7 p.m. Dreier will appear as part of the Distinguished Speaker Series, organized by the Center for Accounting Ethics, Governance and Public Interest.
“Integrity is the first requirement of success, and a thorough understanding of ethics is part of the foundation of a well-rounded education. We need to teach our students a sense of moral obligation,” Dreier said.
Dreier, a graduate of LMU’s accounting program, has been a strong supporter of the university, and of the College of Business Administration in particular. He has contributed more than $6.5 million to the university, including his most recent gift, which established the R. Chad Dreier Endowed Chair in Accounting.
“We are extremely pleased to have Chad Dreier as our third presenter in the Distinguished Speaker Series,” said Lawrence Kalbers, the first holder of the R. Chad Dreier Chair in Accounting and director of the Center. “As an ethical and successful business person who also gives back time and resources to LMU and other community organizations, he is a great role model for our students and for other business professionals.”
Dreier’s company, the Ryland Group, is considered a powerhouse in the homebuilding industry. It is one of the nation’s largest homebuilding and mortgage-finance companies. Dreier’s philanthropies include literacy, education and health-related causes.
“Ethics in Everyday Business” will be held on February 12, 2008 at 7 p.m. in the Hilton Center for Business (Room 100). A reception will follow. The event is free and open to the public.
