Logan Koerner (Film and Television Production – B.A. ’17) has wanted to be a music video director since he was 12 years old, so when he came across an opportunity where Adobe placed one student filmmaker on Grammy-nominated artist and producer J. Cole’s “Forest Hills Drive Tour,” he jumped at the chance.
The opportunity was part of Adobe Student’s “Make it with Creative Cloud” campaign, an effort that gives students professional breaks that help them succeed in the future. Adobe and J. Cole’s chart-topping hip-hop label, DreamVille, asked students to create videos using Adobe’s editing software Creative Cloud on the platform Behance with #madethis #Dreamville. Koerner’s work caught their eye, and he was selected to capture and tell the “Forest Hills Drive Tour” story with just a camera and Creative Cloud.
Koerner joined the first leg of the tour through Lincoln, Nebraska; Springfield, Missouri; and Wichita, Kansas, capturing what really happens on and off stage in cities across the U.S. that typically don’t get love (or a show) from major artists.
“I have always been interested in creating music videos, so to have the opportunity to go on tour and tell the story of these artists at the age of 19 has been unforgettable,” said Koerner. “Through this experience, I have formed strong connections in the industry that will help me throughout my career, and that is invaluable for a young filmmaker.”
This summer, Koerner plans to continue his work with DreamVille independently while also interning in video production at Hulu.
