Loyola Marymount University’s Center for Urban Resilience will host integrative medicine pioneer Deepak Chopra, renowned quantum physicist John Hagelin, and other distinguished scholars at an upcoming salon on the nature of consciousness.
“Consciousness is among the most difficult phenomena for scientists to study,” said CURes Executive Director Eric Strauss, President’s Professor of Biology at LMU. “Recent advances in physics, and the reinterpretation of historic experiments, have given us a new way to understand and ask questions about this vexing subject.”
“Reimagining Consciousness: A Conversation Across the Natural Sciences,” from 1 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2019, in the Life Sciences Building auditorium, is the second part of a two-day conference that begins at Chapman University, where the focus is on quantum mechanics.
“We look forward to bringing together experts with many different perspectives on consciousness and challenge our panelists to envision these new ways of knowing on the fields they study,” Strauss said.
Panelists will be invited to answer the question: What are the implications of the new consciousness on biology, medicine, computing and even our relationships with non-human animals?
The event will open with remarks from Strauss and LMU Executive Vice President and Provost Thomas Poon. Hagelin, a quantum physicist, science and public policy expert, educator and author, will present his keynote, “Universal Mind and the (non-)Collapse of the Wave Function.”
Chopra will close the event with his presentation, “Understanding the Meta Human.” Afterward, he will sign copies of his new book, “Metahuman: Unleashing Your Infinite Potential.”
Chopra has written more than 86 books, including 26 New York Times bestsellers. He is the founder of The Chopra Foundation and Chopra Global, a modern health care company positioned at the intersection of science and spirituality and transformation, and the co-founder of Jiyo.com.
The event is free and open to the public. Reservations are recommended.
