Big congratulations to BCLA’s Class of 2021! Commencement is always an occasion to reflect on and celebrate your achievements, and all of us in BCLA look forward to sharing this time with you. The resilience and adaptability you have demonstrated since March 2020 make this milestone moment and signature accomplishment even sweeter.
The last three semesters of your academic journey have been shaped by a global pandemic, an economic crisis, civil unrest, and a reinvigorated set of movements for social and racial justice. You also have overcome countless personal challenges to stay on the path to completing your degree. Despite all of this, you have found a way to make the most of our current situation: you have navigated virtual modalities, harnessed your inner strength, embraced the inevitability of uncertainty and change, and learned to take care of yourselves and each other at every step along the way. We are impressed and moved in equal measure!
Know that the ways you have learned to show up with courage, persistence, and compassion will serve you well in the future. Year after year, studies show that employers value these qualities (as do friends, romantic partners, children, neighbors….), along with the critical, creative, and collaborative thinking, writing, teamwork, and communications skills that are the hallmarks of a liberal arts education. There’s never been a better time to bring these resources to work in the world. We look forward to seeing where you’ll go from here, and how you’ll contribute to the world emboldened by all you have learned and lived during your time at LMU.
We are excited to celebrate all of this with you, both virtually and in person, at upcoming events across BCLA and LMU! Details about these events appear below and on LMU’s commencement website here.
