Two ongoing construction projects at Loyola Marymount University are intended to ease crowding in existing facilities and make better use of campus space.
Now being built from scratch is the Gersten Annex, a facility that will provide much-needed locker room space for the men and women’s soccer teams, as well as baseball and softball. It will also include a new weight facility and new ticket office for sporting events.
Construction on Gersten Annex began in February south of Gersten Pavilion. While campus regulars have noticed the fence around the site and limited access in certain locations, construction is expected to last just one year.
At the same time, the former Von der Ahe Library is undergoing a transformation to become the Von der Ahe Campus Center. The building will be home to several student services that are currently located in different places around campus, making it a one-stop destination. The services to be relocated include:
- Enrollment Management
- Admissions
- Registrar’s Office
- Financial Aid
- Student Financial Services
- OneCard
- LMU Bookstore
Additionally, Alumni Relations and some Student Affairs departments plan on relocating to the newly redesigned building.
Though most of the work will take place in the interior, a construction fence has been erected around the Von der Ahe building. Construction is expected to finish in December.
