Eight students from Loyola Marymount University’s College of Business Administration finished in the top 100 of the All-America Student Analyst Competition, sponsored by the Institutional Investor magazine group.
LMU was one of the top performing schools, with the fourth-largest number of students scoring in the top 100. Some 700 students from 34 colleges and universities around the country participated in the event.
The All-America Student Analyst Competition, which ran from September 2012 through January 2013, tracked student portfolios. Performance was graded quantitatively on multiple factors to determine the overall winners, as well as winners in seven different industry sectors including: basic materials, capital goods/industrials, consumer, energy, financial institutions, health care and technology, media and telecommunications.
The LMU students in the competition were members of student investment classes taught by Chun Lee, a finance professor at CBA.
“It’s gratifying to see that our students were able to successfully apply the investment theories they learn in class into practical use,” said Lee. “Their success in the stock picking competition is a testament to LMU’s mission of excellence in learning.”
Scoring in the top 100 were: Aaron Meyer, a senior majoring in economics and finance; and M.B.A. students Anali Aguilar Lopez, Vidya Chokkalingam, Matthew Claflin, Dibyendu Meher, Clifford Ompi, Steven Stergar and David Swiatkowski.
