The CBA’s very own Ellen Ensher, professor of management, was invited to be a part of a very selective group of speakers at the TEDxLoyolaMarymountU event held Saturday, April 6th on the LMU campus. Specifically, Ellen talked about how to secure a mentor in order to advance your career and how this can apply to the education field. She outlined an innovative prescription for how to get a mentor that can be used by shy students, busy executives and anyone interested in taking on a new role or learning new skills in their personal or professional life. Using personal stories as examples, Ensher discussed the importance of having a network of different types of mentors and provided ideas for creating a plan that works to help you connect with mentors.

The purpose of the TEDxLMU conference was to strengthen the education community by sharing innovative ideas and collaborating to inspire action that will transform classrooms and school systems across Los Angeles. This event was a professional development and networking opportunity that left attendees pondering “ideas worth spreading” and ideas that can be put into action.
Ensher is considered the mentoring researcher and career expert at LMU. She has been researching, writing and speaking professionally about mentoring for 20 years. Research shows that if you have a great mentor, you are likely to earn a nice income, enjoy academic and career success, and benefit from an ally to guide you through life’s twists and turns. Mentoring can be a powerful tool no matter how young, mature, rich or poor you may be, and yet many people do not know how to find a mentor.
