The LMU Entrepreneurship Program held its first-ever virtual Business Incubator Showcase on April 29 where student entrepreneurs presented their exciting new businesses from the spring semester. David Choi, director of the LMU Entrepreneurship Program, kicked off the event with highlights from the school year followed by presentations from four teams on their new ventures, including:
- Prism XR: Creating mixed reality experiences for cities and corporations
- TatYou: Simplifies the tattoo process by connecting customers to the right artists
- Bobabase: Offers instant boba for enjoyment in the home and office
- waerHealth: Wearable technology for detecting and managing stress
The Business Incubator gives students the workspace and guidance to prepare their business ideas for the real world. Students receive advice from subject matter experts, alumni, seasoned entrepreneurs and investors. Many of our students’ companies have raised capital, received TV coverage and landed shelf space in major retailers.
Unlike previous years, teams were comprised of mostly freshmen and sophomore students. After the presentations, each team had their own breakout session where attendees could connect with the student entrepreneurs and ask more in-depth questions about their businesses.
LMU is grateful to Samantha Ginn Boyd ’92 and the Ginn Family Foundation Ignition Grant Fund for awarding grants to four 2019-20 interdisciplinary teams to continue their projects: TatYou, Bobabase, Washington Abstract and Cognito.
“We had a fantastic turnout of attendees who showed support for our program,” said Dayle Smith, dean of LMU College of Business Administration. “The student presenters exceeded expectations and showed wisdom beyond their years. Special thanks to the donors who help us fund these students so they are able to get their ideas out into the marketplace.”
