Next step: Audit Associate, KPMG
“Why set small goals?” Caspian Lewke likes to say. “My plan is to become a CFO [chief financial officer] of a Fortune 500. Or partner at a firm like KPMG.” His first job as an audit associate at accounting firm KPMG is a great first step.
His goal may be clear, but his path to get there was anything but. Lewke entered LMU as a Modern Languages major, studying Spanish, German, and some French. As he developed an interest in finance, he added an economics major, and later worked with the College of Business Administration to take accounting courses.
Last summer, he took on a BCLA Career Pathways Summer Internship as an Accounting and Financial Services Intern at a start-up, hoping “to apply economics theory in the nitty-gritty of a real company,” he said. His internship experience clarified his interest in accounting, which eventually led him to accounting firm positions like the one he plans to begin next year.
The diversity of Lewke’s academic interests has not held him back from high achievement. He is a member of the University Honors Program, a recipient of multiple academic scholarships, and an inductee into Alpha Sigma Nu, the honor society of Jesuit universities.
His study of languages in addition to economics and accounting has made him a more interesting job candidate in his field. “Interviewers almost always asked me about the languages I speak,” he said. “And I did a lot of interviews!”
