Antonia Darder, an internationally recognized Freirean scholar and the Leavey Presidential Chair of Ethics and Moral Leadership in the School of Education at Loyola Marymount University, has been inducted as a 2015 Fellow of the American Educational Research Association. The AERA Fellows Program was established in 2007 to honor scholars with substantial research accomplishments and to emphasize the importance of sustained research and exemplify the highest professional standards.
Darder’s career has spanned more than 30 years exploring the link between class inequalities and critical pedagogy to political questions and ethical concerns. More recently, her work has sought to articulate a critical theory of leadership for social justice and community engagement, as well as to theorize a pedagogy of beauty, in the pursuit of a liberatory practice of education. Darder has written seven books, edited eight books, and is the author of numerous articles on educational equity and social justice. She holds a master’s degree in Human Development with a specialization in Marriage, Family & Child Counseling and earned her Ph.D. in Philosophy of Education from Claremont Graduate University.
Darder was installed in the 2015 Class of Fellows on April 17 at the AERA Annual Meeting in Chicago, the seventh group to be inducted based on nominations by peers. She will join 579 current AERA Fellows.
