A virtual, free education-law symposium for Catholic educators will be offered by the Center for Catholic Education at Loyola Marymount University in partnership with the National Catholic Education Association.
Due to the pandemic, this year’s 17th annual symposium, scheduled for July 9-12, at the Brown Hotel in Louisville, Kentucky, was canceled. However, knowing how valuable this gathering is to Catholic educators, NCEA and LMU decided to offer a virtual mini-symposium on July 8 and 9 and to make this event free to attend online.
“The pandemic continues to pose challenges and opportunities for Catholic schools, many of whom have garnered much praise for their prompt conversion to quality online instruction and their ability to meet many student needs,” said Sister Angie Shaughnessy, Senior Distinguished Fellow of Catholic Education. “This mini-symposium brings together experts to offer both up-to-date legal information and practical application.”
Topics across the two days for panel presentation and discussion will include:
- Pandemic and Post-Pandemic Realities of Fundraising and Friend Raising;
- Legal Issues and Application In Pandemic Times
- Medical Issues
- Lessons Learned & Moving Forward (a panel presentation); and
- Technology/Online Learning.
Presenters and panelists include:
- Sister Rosemarie Nassif, executive director of the LMU Center for Catholic Education
- Kevin Baxter, Ed.D., chief innovation officer, NCEA
- Kara Lemma, Ph.D., dual language immersion program at Archdiocese of Los Angeles/LMU
