The twelfth annual BTLS4SAM show, a celebration of life for former LMU Theatre student Samuel Wasson, was held virtually this fall through Zoom. Sam Wasson, who was tragically taken in a car accident in 2007, is commemorated each year by the LMU Theatre Department at an evening of live music by The Beatles, Sam’s favorite band. While this beloved event of student performers is typically held on the front porch of the Foley Building, the event transitioned to a virtual format this fall.
Each year, all the performers get on stage at the end of the night and do a finale together, which was done virtually as a video compilation. The final group song, “Twist & Shout” by The Beatles, features thirty-two LMU Theatre students, alumni, staff, friends, and family. “The finale video was edited by alumni Kent Jenkins who thought it would be a good piece to share with a greater audience and showcase the love and talents of our community,” said Jason Sheppard, Technical Director of the Theater Arts and Dance Department.
BTLS4SAM raises funds for the Sam Wasson Scholarship, which is given to a student who equally participates in technical theatre and performance. To help support the scholarship in memory of Sam Wasson, t-shirts are available for purchase on the BTLS4SAM Etsy website.
