The film Incognito by Jiaxuan “Jacky” Song ’19 (Film and TV Production) is a finalist for a 2020 Student Academy Award (SAA). Set in mid-1990s Los Angeles, Incognito tells the story of a young woman who claims to have teleported from the past and is locked up in a psych ward—and the doctor who believes her and investigates a shocking story she’s told him.
The film was Song’s thesis project while he was a student at SFTV. His other recent work includes films The Last Silence and Lonely In The Dusk, and his projects have screened at the Beverly Hills Film Festival, the Newport Beach Film Festival, Dances With Films, and the L.A. Shorts International Film Festival, among others.
”Professor Skinner Myers helped supervise Incognito from inception to post-production, and needless to say, it would not have qualified for an SAA without his constant encouragement and a comprehensive approach to getting the best from students,” said Song. ”I appreciate all of the faculty resources, my peers’ affirmation, and technical supports I got from LMU’s Production Administration team while I was there also. I’m proud to be a member of the Lion community.”
The Student Academy Awards is an international student film competition held annually by The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, the organization that sponsors the Oscars each year. Past SAA winners include renowned filmmakers Pete Docter, Robert Zemeckis, Patricia Riggen, Cary Fukunaga, Patricia Cardoso, and Spike Lee. This year’s SAA winners will be announced on Thursday, October 15.
