The Newport Beach Film Festival has honored alumnus Patrick Jones with a Special Jury Prize for Cinematography for his work on the film This Last Lonely Place. The film tells the story of an unsuspecting L.A. cab driver who, on his last night on the job, gets roped into helping a wealthy investment banker cover up a brutal crime. TwitchFilm notes his cinematography “captures the town in buzzing neon and rich, deep blacks pockmarked by hazy twinkles of streetlight: last bastions of hope and serenity before the long, dark road to hell. The city is portrayed in considerably devious two-faced fashion. It is a place of glamor, power and dreams, and of those shattered dreams, with edges sharp enough to cut deep.”
Jones has been gaining strong notices since graduating from LMU. In addition to this recent honor he was named an Emerging Cinematographer honoree in 2009 and 2010 by the International Cinematographers Guild.
